Major scientific achievements

  • Validation of the epigenetic nature of oil and gas and their origin mostly from organic matter of diatomite and maikopian sediments based on the modern isotopic and geochemical studies of organic matter and fluids in sediments of the South Caspian Basin, sediment–oil and oil–oil correlations, basin analysis and modeling;
  • Geodynamic model of oil and gas origin and spatial distribution within the South Caspian Basin;
  • Assessment of generation depth (5–15 km) and isotopic and geochemical properties of oil and gas;
  • Comparative analysis of reservoirs and mud volcanoes in the Po River basin (Italy) and in the South Caspian Basin;
  • Investigation of gas conditions and evaluation of efficiency of direct gas geochemical exploration of oil and gas in the South Caspian Basin;
  • Analysis of spatial heterogeneity of oil-saturated geological environment and operating efficiency of underground gas storages in Azerbaijan;
  • Abnormally high and abnormally low fluid pressure research and testability;
  • Analysis of ecological after-effect of long-term oil and gas field operation;
  • Quantitative evaluation of contribution made by methane emissions from mud volcanoes in greenhouse gases;
  • Azerbaijan’s first mapping of radon patterns in accommodation facilities, soil, thermal sources and mud volcanoes as well as recommendations on health risk reduction in Azerbaijan.
