The scope of his research activities embraces a wide range of issues associated with engineering of mining and haulage machinery systems, efficient nature management and environmental protection, rehabilitation and reclamation of disturbed land, computer-aided modeling and mine planning.

  • Full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences;
  • Visiting Professor and Invited Lecturer at the Kazakh National Technical University, Namibia University of Science and Technology and at the Ural State Mining University;
  • Doctor of Honor at the Moscow State Mining University (affiliated with NUST MISIS in 2014) and at the National University of Mongolia in Ulan-Bator;
  • Member of the Society of Mining Professors (SOMP);
  • Chairman of the Ring Deutscher Bergingenieure—a professional association of German mining engineers;
  • One of the founders of the Geokompetenzzentrum Freiberg.

Professor Drebenstedt has implemented dozens of international-scale projects in science and education:

  • DAAD/GIZ/AMEA—Academic Mining Education in Afghanistan;
  • DAAD—German-Mongolian University for Science and Technology, School of Mining and Technology (GMIT);
  • Grant-supported R&D projects at NUST MISIS.

Professor Carsten Drebenstedt is the author of 316 publications, including 14 monographs and textbooks, 11 patents. He is a doctor of honor at many universities worldwide and the winner of a grants competition at NUST MISIS.
